Hi Dave, come cross your website and your videos by accident, and really loved it. I started hiking some 15 years ago and compiled my first set of gears, which I used for many years. I mostly do weekend trips, as well as some oversea trips including the Annapurna circuit in Nepal, and my gears seemed to work fine. After having two kids, I am so occupied that hiking becomes a luxury. This year, my little son turned 2 this year, I decided to return to the track and did the overland track in Tasmania, Australia in Feb. It is a five-night, six day track and I thought I was experienced enough for the trip. It turned out otherwise, and I was astonished to see how lightweight fellow hikers are carrying, 25 pounds vs some 50 pounds on my back. Back at home, I did a bit research and was really surprised at what I didn't know. Now I am upgrading all my gears and also my knowledge about hiking. Many thanks to you for providing all the information about lightweight hiking, really rekindle my enthusiasm about hiking.

Dave,
I've been looking for this site for a site like this for ages and you really knocked it out of the park. I come from an ultra runner mindset but could never find any info that let me transfer that into hiking till I found your videos. You nail it because you explain real trail performance based on experience, strategy, gear selection and mind set.

This is the best site out there regarding lightweight backpacking, thanks so much Dave! Your videos have been so useful to me, so far I've managed to shed at least 2 - 3 kg from my pack (I'm down to 8.6kg) and reckon I could cut more, all thanks to your sound advice!

I've been buying most of the stuff from ebay, which is helping me save a lot of money, as a lot of this lightweight gear can be really pricey! I've found some cheap lightweight trail running trainers and am about to ditch my faithful old boots, which have destroyed my feet from previous long distance paths. I'm currently searching out ways of cutting my cooking equipment and spare clothing weight down, so far so good!
