Use the carabineer as the weight to throw the nylon cord over the limb. Clip one bag on and pull it all the way up to the branch. Tie the other bag on (it helps to do this with two people so one can hold the line with the weight of the other bag on it while you tie) and push/throw up. You can use the loop or just find a stick or hiking pole to push one bag up to lower the other. I’ve also always packed in ziplocks so weatherproof bags don’t really matter. I have some large lightweight nylon stuff sacks that work great. Have never had any issues with this approach.

Similar, but you have 2 bags of similar weight with a rope loop on 2nd one. You tie the second bag instead of the stick (when first bag is at the top), with all the extra rope inside, leaving a loop sticking out. You then throw it up and push it up with a stick so the top bag lowers to same level as 2nd bag. The advantage is there is no rope hanging down, so very hard for bears to figure it out. You need a long stick to grab the rope loop and pull it down when needed. Feels safer to me than PCT method, but it is a little more work. Any downsides?

I would think the PCT method would give them easy access (just slide down the rope from the tree). I’m going to be travelling in a non-bear location, but i want to ensure my food won’t get nibbled and pooped on by rodents and squirrels. Thoughts??
