Hi Amanda, I would recommend reaching out to ZPacks directly, as they will probably be better at answering that question for you. From my perspective, my guess is that the small size would work out for you, especially because the torso is adjustable. But again, ZPaks will probably be the best for answering that question. Best of luck!

How tall is she and what is her torso length? I’m trying to decide if the blast or the scout will fit me. I am 5’5" and my torso has been measured at 15", but I don’t know if I trust that measurement. I can’t seem to find much info about how this pack fits women since the small arc blast starts at 17"

Hi Joe, thanks so much! This review was actually completed on a slightly older model of the Arc Blast, though the main design is still pretty much the same. We’ve tested the new version of the Arc Blast too, which is a bit heavier because they’ve made it more durable. We’d still highly recommend it for ultralight backpackers.

Thanks for this very in depth review. Very helpful.

I have been very interested in the Arc Blast and plan on purchasing one fairly soon. One question, in your review you stated that the back weighs 16.4oz but Zpacks website lists it at 21oz. Do you know if this is due to a change in design (taped seems) or are they over estimating the average weight for precaution?

Well, I have no doubt that ZPacks is growing rapidly. They’re gear is excellent and they have products that set themselves apart from the competition. I have yet to experience a ZPacks product that I felt was constructed poorly, and if I did, I have complete faith that Joe from ZPacks would make it right. He’s been extremely responsive and helpful every time I’ve contacted him. So, that’s not something I’d worry about. I also tend not to pay much attention to negative word-of-mouth stories like those. They are often completely false.

The more I look at them I’m finding that I do not like the workmanship. In your pictures of the pack, I can see that the stitching is not straight and quite off. Even those box stitches seem mangled. Every one that I take a close look at now in pictures have these same issues. I believe its probably the quick expansion of his business. Heard that he has hired friends of friends who have no experience in sewing or gear making and jump right into it. What are your thoughts?

It is 39 oz, so it saves me 11 oz over my REI Flash 62. Now I see the Arc Blast at 17 oz or so, wow! that would save me a whopping 33 oz over the REI Flash!

I see Zpacks a great return policy, but I hate to have them make it, then me return it. I need to better understand the trade-off with the Fusion 65.
Like I say, I haven’t really used the Fusion, though I have put 20 or so lbs in it and taken it for a short walk. The split hip band is excellent (you might want to look into it) – might not have to depend on my pants belt to transfer the weight, as I have with every other pack I have ever owned.

Thanks,

Erica please send a reply to erica_r@charter.net
