Over 1200 uses of my Optimus Crux folding stove leaves me very hesitant to go away from it. It survived 2007 AT thru hike and has been with me on every long distance outing since. I love it, but it is always good to see what else is out there.

The Fire Maple G3 pot works insanely well with Soto Windmaster with Trifex.

Excellent feedback, thanks so much! I’m in full agreement with everything you said. Piezo ignition can be finicky on all stoves, so it’s always good to bring a small bic. I tend to not value piezo too much in general because of that. Piezo will eventually give out on all stoves, so I tend to just rely on one small bic and one backup small bic stashed elsewhere in my pack.

I also agree with the length of the Windmaster and I wish it was shorter. I like stoves I can nest in my pot, so that part is probably my personal biggest con with this stove. Those two things aside, it’s a great stove. Enjoy your seven night trip and thanks again for the comment!

I recently purchased a Soto Windmaster and TOAKS 550ml pot and used it for the first time on a four nights backpacking trip in the Eastern Sierra. I really like the stove but was only able to get the piezo to work about a third of the time, so I’m glad I brought a mini Bic just in case. I’ll be going out again on a seven night backpacking trip next week and I’ll try harder to finesse the technique in of regulating the valve with the piezo to see if I have better luck with it. The only other negative is that I can’t nest it inside my pot together with a 110g fuel canister. When I got home from my last trip I went out and bought a 750ml pot, but it still wouldn’t nest because the burner is too big. Therefore I decided to keep using my smaller 550ml pot, then lash the stove to the top of the pot with a big rubberband and then use the stuff sack that came with the bigger pot so I can keep it all together.

This is a great review. I can testify that this stove indeed lives up to its name. I use this stove myself and am completely satisfied with its premium performance. The MSR Pocket Rocket Deluxe designed their stove from the Soto Windmaster but it is still not as efficient.
