Your concern is valid! That said, in our experience, the new Tensor pads have proven more durable than older versions. After a year of regular use – a little over 300 miles and more than 30 nights – we haven’t had any notable issues with pinholes, gashes, or leaks, and we haven’t babied it on trail. That said, a patch kit is included, and we always bring it along just in case. As for weight and comfort, it depends on the pad size and personal preference. The Long/Wide rectangular version comes in around 20 ounces, while the Regular Mummy (rounded corners) is closer to 14 ounces, so it’s a trade-off between comfort and pack weight. The same goes for the Ether Light XR: a large squared-off version weighs more than a short or regular mummy shape. In both cases, it comes down to how you like to sleep and how much you’re willing to carry. They are both excellent pads. Let us know what you get! – Ian

It would seem from your review that you didn’t have issues with pinholes or gashes? Previous TENSOR pads were known for this issue. Also question about the weight. Total pack weight is almost 19 oz, correct? How would you compare this to the STS ether light XR which has a similar total pack weight? (comfort, durability etc, certainly this is warmer from R value perspective). Thanks!

Thanks for sharing your experience! We’re sorry to hear you had trouble with the valve. FYI, none of our content is sponsored. The products we recommend are chosen because they’ve consistently performed among the best in our testing over many months. Our team’s experience with the All-Season has been very positive, which is why it earned a high ranking, but we understand that gear doesn’t always work out the same for everyone. NEMO does have a strong warranty and customer service policy, so we encourage you to reach out to them for a replacement or assistance. We appreciate you taking the time to comment!

When you inflate to maximum, the valve completely pops out deflating the pad. So not reliable in the field. Who wants to pump up the pad on 2 or 3 occasions……not me. The top material is too thin, and sounds a bit crisp packet, when you change position. If you kneel or lean your elbow – you feel the ground. I returned this pad – for these reasons.

I appreciate your perspective, and thank you for the comment. However, you are mistaken. We have put this pad through hundreds of miles of testing, and we have tested all previous versions of the Nemo Tensor as well. In addition, we have tested every high-quality backpacking sleeping pad on the market for over 10 years. So we have a very good foundation from which to judge the durability of this pad compared to the other top pads on the market in this price range. This is a reliable review, and we are a trustworthy website. Thank you for reading and happy hiking!
